HILLSBOROUGH: Catherine Jacobs will receive veterans group’s $2,500 scholarship

A Hillsborough High School student is one of two girls who will receive a scholarship Monday from the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Foundation.
Katherine Jacobs, who is graduating in June, will receive $2,500 from the foundation in a Memorial Day ceremony at 11 a.m. in Holmdel. A similar scholarship will go to Amanda Berlinski of Mountainside, graduating from Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley Heights.
At Monday’s ceremony, the foundation will induct five Vietnam veterans into its “In Memory” program. Major General William D. Razz Waff, the commanding general of the 99th Regional Support Command, will speak. He is responsible for administrative, logistics and facilities support to more than 51,000 Army Reserve soldiers and 160,000 family members.
Soldiers who served in Vietnam but died of causes due to Agent Orange exposure, Hepatitis C and physical or emotional wounds are not honored on the national memorial. “In Memory” honors New Jerseyans who served and died as a result of the war in Vietnam but whose names are not on the national memorial.
A book of biographical information, complied by the family, is also placed in the Vietnam Era Museum & Educational Center’s Resource Room.
The museum and center will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Memorial Day and admission is free for all visitors. The museum is adjacent to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial off Exit 116 of the Garden State Parkway in Holmdel. The Memorial is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Museum is normally open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
