Centenary United Methodist Church has announces the retirement of its pastor, Judith Gehrig.
The Rev. Gehrig and her husband Mike Gehrig “have reached that glorious time in life where they can now retire.”
After 10 years of service to Centenary, the Rev. Gehrig’s last service will be June 24.
In honor of the Gehrigs’ contributes to the church and community, Centenary has planned a coffee and dessert open house for June 21 from 6-9 p.m. in the church fellowship hall, l108 N. Union St., Lambertville.
”This gathering is for everyone who has been touched by Judy and Mike’s ministry. It is our hope that the entire community will come out to wish them well as they enter this next chapter of their lives,” said Judy Lavery, chairwoman of Centenary’s administrative council.
With the huge success of Centenary’s Community Kitchen, an outreach program that the Gehrigs began three years ago, the church is expecting a large group of community members as well as their church family to join them for this special evening of fellowship and desserts.
Those with questions about the open house on June 21 should call Ms. Lavery at 397-1962.
In 2002, Pastor Gehrig became the first woman pastor at Centenary.
She grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida. She can trace her family back to 1895 in that area. She went to Florida State University. Her first marriage ended in divorce. Four days after that divorce was final, she met her husband, Michael. They married a year later and have been together ever since.
