MILLSTONE — A 42-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a head-on collision with a Ford Econoline van Friday evening on Millstone Road, state police said.
The victim, Virgil V. Gross, of Millstone, failed to negotiate a curve near Bitner Road and his motorcycle crossed over the double-yellow line into oncoming traffic at about 6:20 p.m. on June 1, said Lt. Tom Janicky of the state police.
Mr. Gross’ 2009 Yamaha motorcycle was struck head-on by a southbound Ford Econoline van driven by Rolando Gomez, Lt. Janicky said. No age or hometown was available for Mr. Gomez, he said.
Millstone firefighters, under the direction of Chief John Fiore, arrived to find Mr. Gross in cardiac arrest and performed CPR, but he was later pronounced dead at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold.
The driver of the van was not charged in connection with the fatal accident, Lt. Janicky said.
”It doesn’t appear he was at fault at all,” Lt. Janicky said Monday.
