Voters make primary picks

By Jen Samuel, Managing Editor
Voters selected party representatives at the election polls on Tuesday.
There are two, three year seats up for grabs on Borough Council this November.
In Hightstown, 42 people wrote in Republican candidate Denise Hansen, a newcomer. 50 people wrote in George Serrano, also a Republican, who lost against Councilwoman Gail Doran last November to fill a one-year seat.
On the Democratic ticket, 97 people voted for Councilwoman Doran and 105 people voted for Council President Lawrence Quattrone, who is a long-time council member.
In the presidential primaries, 106 people voted for incumbent Barack Obama, a Democrat.
On the Republican side, 72 people voted for Mitt Romney. In second place, 22 people voted for Republican candidate Ron Paul.
In East Windsor, where there is no open seat on Township Council this year, 636 people voted for President Obama. He was not challenged on the Democratic ticket. Two people did write in the name of Hillary Clinton.
Ten people voted for Newt Gingrich; 310 people voted for Mitt Romney; 67 people voted for Ron Paul; and 23 people voted for Rick Santorum. In all accounts Mr. Romney already has earned enough delegates to clinch the Republican ticket to face off against President Obama in November.
Polls were opened from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
