SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Bengals sign Sanu to multi-year deal

By Ed Birch, Special Writer
It is really official now. SBHS alumnus Mohamed Sanu will be a Cincinnati Bengal for the next several years.
The Bengals announced Monday that they signed South Brunswick and Rutgers University star wide received Mohamed Sanu to a multi-year contract.
The $2.7 million, four-year deal includes a $563,252 signing bonus, according to published reports.
Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan could not release any details of the contract by the team Monday, but did say the club expects Sanu to contribute in a “big” way when the team takes the field in the fall.
According to Spotrac.com, a web based data service which tracks professional sports contracts, Sanu’s annual salary would start at $390,000 for 2012 and reach $660,000 in 2016. His signing bonus will be paid out in four yearly installments, according to the website.
With Sanu signing on the dotted line, the team has now acquired nine of the 10 Bengals draftees.
First round picks CB Dre Kirkpatrick (Alabama) and G Kevin Zeitler (Wisconsin) and DT Devon Still (Penn State) have also been signed recently.
”Mo has been impressive in the work he’s been able to do with us thus far, and of course it’s great to have this step (signing) accomplished,” Head Coach Marvin Lewis said in a Bengals press release Monday. “He can play a big role for us this year.”
Offensive Coordinator Jay Gruden is also optimistic about Sanu’s talents in the position.
”A lot of guys faced with a route adjustment round it off and it allows the route to get jumped for an interception,” Mr. Gruden said. “He’s got the ability to stick his foot in the ground, make the right shade or angle, and get that 12-yard completion.
Opening Day will be Monday evening Sept. 10 with the Bengal’s traveling to Baltimore to play the Ravens.
