A 49-year-old Dayton woman was hurt Wednesday morning after falling asleep at the wheel and striking a utility pole on George’s Road, according to police.
Sgt. James Ryan said the unidentified woman reportedly fell asleep while driving on George’s Road around 11:40 a.m., causing her vehicle to cross into the other lane and then strike a utility pole.
Sgt. Ryan said the car then flipped onto the driver’s side in a wooded area just off the roadway.
The Monmouth Junction Fire Department responded to the scene and worked for 20 minutes to get the woman out of the vehicle.
A South Brunswick EMS crew transported the woman to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with non-life threatening injuries, Sgt. Ryan said.
According to Sgt. Ryan, the woman was talking to rescue workers on the scene and to members of her family following the crash.
George’s Road was closed for about 45 minutes as a result of the accident, Sgt. Ryan said.
