By Ed Birch, Special Writer
The Board of Education officially recognized 16 employees, each with 20 years of service, during Monday night’s meeting.
According to Assistant Superintendent Joanne Kerekes, the group of employees combined for almost 400 years of employment in the district.
The audience was filled with many family, friends, co-workers, and parents of the honorees, who each received a piece of framed artwork made by a district student.
The supervisors in the district, according to officials paid for costs for matting and framing the pieces.
”The students really showed their true natural abilities as well as the talents of the South Brunswick Schools Art Staff in their efforts and display of the presented works,” Board President Stephen Parker said.
The highlight of the evening’s program was a production of words and music regarding recycling, directed by retiring Music Specialist Ed Cedar and a large group of kindergarten students.
Students from the Cambridge Elementary School presented outgoing Principal Glenn Famous with a self-portrait-caricature that will likely be displayed in Mr. Famous’ new office when he assumes the position of principal at Crossroads South Middle School in September.
The 16 honorees included; Rosemary Woods, Anthony Sudnick, and Robin Metzger from South Brunswick High School, Glenn Famous, Nancy Roberts, and Susan Liporace from Cambridge, Susan Freeman and Christina Napoli from Indian Fields Elementary School, Linda Gunderson, Carol Rodek-Gray and Susan Rausch from Brooks Crossing Elementary School, and Carolyn Gerdes from Greenbrook/Deans, Leslie Lillian from Deans; Karen O’Brian from Dayton; Delores Smith from transportation and Sandra Pearce from Constable.
Superintendent Dr. Gary McCartney thanked the staff for their unselfish devotion and thanked the families of the employees for allowing them to work in the district. He reminded everyone that excellent education is a product of excellent cooperation between faculty members, families, and students.
Board President Stephen Parker and Assistant Superintendent Joanne Kerekes presented each student artist with a certificate of appreciation from the board, and a brief biography of each student was also read to the audience during the meeting.
