Colts Neck High School’s Emily Mills and Howell High School’s Dawson Jones were named to the 2012All-State High School Golf Team by the New Jersey PGA Section.

Mills, a sophomore, led the Cougars to another undefeated dual meet season as well as the Monmouth County Championship. She won the Shore Conference title and finished 12th at the NJSIAA Individual Championship. She was one of 10 picked to the All-State Girls Team.

Jones, a freshman, was named to the Boys Third TeamAll-State. He captured the NJSIAA Central/South Jersey sectional championship.

Howell’s Bill Hill is the head football coach of the Jersey CoastAcademy, a new program based in the Jersey Shore area.

JCA was established to assist and motivate aspiring post-graduate, high school and junior college student athletes with their transition to post-secondary education and their participation in collegiate sports.

Hill, a three-sport standout at Howell High School, played college football for Rutgers and went on to play in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys. In recent years he has been coaching high school football in the Shore area. He was named to the position in March,

TJ Moriarty has been added to the staff as the Offensive Coordinator (Moriarty is a former quarterback coach at Wagner University). Board members for JCA include Dr. Michael Rush (former education administrator) and current NFL players from the Jersey shore/North Jersey regions.

Howell United Soccer Club U-11 Hawks won the 40thAnnualMemorial Day Tournament held by the Brick Soccer Club. The Hawks went through the tournament undefeated winning all five games on the way to finishing first,

The Hawks are: Matt Loucel, Matt Ganter, Richie Beggs, Justin Smith, Jason Tango, John Askin, Jared Bellanca, Anthony Fiorello, Andrew Abujawdeh, Dylan Dougher, Tommy Adams, Shane McBride, Jared Gold, Kyle Stivala.

Coaches are Ron Ganter and Frank Tango and Lou LaBrocca is the trainer.

The deadline for applicants wishing to be considered for the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey 2012 college scholarships is June 15

Scholarships, which can range from $2,500 to $5,000, are for qualified students who plan to attend a two or four-year college or university, who are the son or daughter of a full-time participant in New Jersey harness racing or are themselves a full-time participant in New Jersey harness racing. Only one candidate per household will be considered, and there is a lifetime cap of $10,000 per individual.

The applicant must have taken either the SAT orACT test, be accepted to or attend a college or university and fill out the SBOANJ’s Scholarship Award application. Financial need, student involvement in community work, extracurricular academic activities, evidence of strong character and leadership and interest in the equine industry will all be considered.

All scholarship winners and their families will be invited to a night at the races at the Meadowlands where they will be recognized for their accomplishment in the winner’s circle and have a complimentary dinner on a date determined after the selection is completed.

Applications for the 17th Annual Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey Golf Outing are now available.

The popular event takes place on July 9 at Gambler Ridge Golf Club in Cream Ridge, with proceeds benefiting the Horsemen’s Benevolent Fund.

The applications are in the mail to previous participants and downloadable on the www.sboanj.com website.

The $180 player’s cost includes green fees, golf cart, buffet lunch, beverages on the course, prime rib dinner and open bar, prizes and awards.

Raffle tickets will be sold for a 2012 Sport Trainer Jog Cart, donated by Allen Eggert of Pennsbury Enterprises. There will be a putting contest, 50-50 and a Hole-in- One opportunity for a 2012 Mercedes C300-W4, courtesy of Prestige Mercedes Benz of Paramus.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and the shotgun start after lunch is from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The dinner will run from 6-8 p.m. To attend the dinner only, the cost is $75.

Holmdel Storm Girls (U12 Girls as of Fall 2012) is looking for a couple of competitive players for next season. The Storm are a National 3 team that has steadily climbed with the same nice group of girls and is looking to maintain the momentum.
