Blues-folk musician to hold concert
Mr. Tolchin, a rising star on the folk music scene, is a young musician who mesmerizes audiences with his impeccable musicianship, foot-stomping rhythms, and lyrical original songs. He grew up in Princeton, and, at the age of 14, became a passionate blues guitarist. At age 15 he appeared at Tupelo Music Hall in New Hampshire with blues legend Ronnie Earl. He plays everything from roots and Americana music, old time folk and acoustic blues to electric funk, but he likes to settle down in the in-between places.
The son of Susan Danoff and Neal Tolchin of Princeton, Jonah Tolchin has performed extensively throughout New England as a solo artist. This summer he will be recorded for the popular music internet site, Daytrotter, and he will be a featured performer at several folk festivals including Folk Galore in Jackson, Mich., and several festivals in Rhode Island. His album “Criminal Man” is currently being played on radio stations throughout the United States and in Europe.
The album combines the sounds of folk, blues, bluegrass, and Americana music in 10 original songs (and one cover by Blaze Foley) dedicated to social change. Jonah Tolchin sings with passion and originality about the abuses to the environment, a destructive materialistic culture, and the pain of poverty and loss. A masterful guitarist with a deeply resonant voice, he is joined on this album by Joe Fletcher, musicians from The Low Anthem, Brown Bird, and others.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and concert will begin at 8 p.m. No reservations are necessary. For more: www.jonahtolchin.com. .
