First ‘Hoppy’ trophy is presented to Auten Road Intermediate School
Adele Morgan, a Somerset Valley YMCA swim coach and registration coordinator of the Hillsborough Hop 5 K, on Monday presented the first Hoppy Trophy to Auten Road Intermediate School students who ran in the race on June 2. The 65 kids cheered when the trophy was presented to Principal Chris Carey in the school cafeteria.
The trophy, designed by the Y and engraved with the name of the winning school, will travel each year to the district school with the highest percentage of participants in the Hop.
Many of the students who ran in the Hop were participants in the IRUN training and self-esteem program (I am Responsible, Unique and Noble), sponsored by the Hillsborough/Millstone Municipal Alliance and Youth Services.
The 12th annual foot race raised more than $10,000 this year in support of the Y’s Strong Kids campaign, which providing opportunities for all youth to stay healthy.
