Anyone looking at Peapack-Gladstone Bank’s Pottersville branch cannot deny the nostalgic appeal of this building along with its rural setting and grounds. Purchased and preserved by Peapack-Gladstone Bank in 1973, this unique structure has a story of its own.
Built in 1890 by Peter Whitfield Lindabery, the building originally housed the Lindabery Blue Knot General Store, a popular, thriving establishment for the time. In 1900, the store also became the Pottersville Post office and served three generations of Lindabery’s as Postmaster.
Photos of the original Lindabery store are kept in the archives of local Pottersville resident and descendent, Richard Lindabery, whose family built the original structure, now home to Peapack-Gladstone Bank. On the tract adjacent to the building stand two new, healthy Green Mountain Sugar Maple trees. Planted by the bank in 2011 to replace sugar maple trees located on the property which became diseased, these plantings will mature to replicate the original backdrop of this extraordinary building.
So the next time you travel down the scenic roads of Pottersville, stop in and visit the historic Pottersville branch. You will see the interior as well as exterior of the building remains basically unchanged, keeping the original character of the Lindabery store alive!
