The Somerset County Library System is adding hours this summer and fall.
The library system will maintain year-round hours on Saturdays, including the summer months.
Hillsborough, a member of the county system, is normally open on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Last year it shortened Saturday hours during the summer only but in 2012 will stay open, including the summer, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
As of July 1, Manville joins the county system but it will keep its practice of being closed for the summer, according to the county library.
The county library system also has branches in Bridgewater, Bound Brook, at the Mary Jacobs Library in Rocky Hill, North Plainfield, Peapack-Gladstone, Somerville, Warren Township and Watchung.
During past summers, each of the nine branches of the county system chose to move to a shortened schedule on Saturdays. This summer, Saturday operating hours at each branch will remain constant through the year.
All libraries will also remain open on regular hours on two state holidays Columbus Day and Veterans Day this fall.
”We are always looking at how we can better meet patron needs. With cost savings in other areas of our budget, the library system is pleased to expand our hours in the summer and add two additional days in the fall,” said library director Brian Auger.
County system libraries will also plan to be open on Lincoln’s Birthday and Good Friday in 2013.
