Two 15-year-old Lawrence Township girls have been charged with burglary, criminal mischief and theft after they were discovered inside a vacant Putnam Avenue house at 3:50 p.m. June 10, and police are searching for a third girl.
The property owner discovered three girls inside the house when she stopped to check on it. She found the girls seated at the dining room table. The girls, who cut a screen and forced open a first-floor window to get inside, ran from the house.
Police searched the neighborhood, but initially could not find them. One girl was apprehended by police on Carr Avenue and the second girl was caught near the Burger King restaurant on Brunswick Pike. The third girl could not be located.
There was writing on the wall inside the house, and damage to the dining room table from the nail polish the girls were using. An assortment of men’s and women’s clothing was found inside the house that had not been there when the house was checked a few days earlier.
An empty bottle of vodka that belonged to the property owner and that had been left in the house was discovered in the basement.
The girls were released to their parents’ custody.
