MANVILLE: Children will learn how to ‘dream big’ by reading

By Mary Ellen Zangara, Special Writer
Children will be able to “Dream Big” by reading for the summer in the Manville Public Library’s annual seasonal reading program. The free seven-week program begins Monday.
Ruth Bielanski, the children’s librarian, runs the 45-minute program each summer. Participants will explore reading through stories, crafts, music and activities.
Each week will bring something different under the “Dream Big — Read” theme. Participants will earn “dream dollar money” by reading books and doing an activity.
Children can receive one dream dollar for each hour of reading.
Children can also earn the program dollars by coloring a page, designing a creative logo, doing a word search, finding and writing down 10 jokes or writing a short book review.
When they collect enough money, children can redeem their dollars for prizes that are on display in the community room.
Each week will feature a craft — dream wallets, owl mobile, dream cards, dream catcher, nighttime picture, celestial bank and a magic scratch mask.
The reading program runs through Aug. 13 from 10:30-11:15 a.m. in the community room. For information, stop by or call the library at 908-722-9722.
