PRINCETON: Seminar to give the bear facts

By Victoria Hurley-Schubert, Staff Writer
With recent reports of a second bear wandering in Princeton Township, a bear education seminar will be held next week.
”The last time it was seen was 9 a.m. (June 21) on Province Line Road and Rosedale Road,” said Mark Johnson, animal control officer, who said it was not the same bear that caused a stir around the township last month. “It’s slightly bigger and all black. I’ve seen pictures of it and it’s a different bear.”
The first report of the new bear sighting came into animal control about 6 p.m. on June 20 from a Balcort Drive resident who saw the bear in her backyard, and it migrated to Crestview Drive and Cherry Hill Road.
The bear education seminar, free and open to the public, will be held in the Princeton Township Municipal Complex on Tuesday, June 26.
”Because of the concern of the residents and the false information that a lot of people are putting out there,” said Mr. Johnson, “we are trying to alleviate fears and concerns with information.”
Representatives from the state Division of Fish and Wildlife will be on hand to advise residents about bear safety, what to do (and not to do) when a bear is spotted, and how to keep from attracting bears to your property.
The lecture is interactive and will allow for questions from the public.
The meeting will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the main meeting room.
