Award the Winner of Good Deed Contest
With his Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet
June 27, 2012- Brian Wahler, Mayor of Piscataway, NJ joined Family Foot & Ankle Specialists to award the winner of the Good Deed Essay Contest. David Hallam, of Flemington won the essay contest and won the 2st place prize of a Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet.
The Good Deed Contest was developed by Dr. Wishnie, owner of Family Foot & Ankle Specialists to encourage children to do more good deeds. “Studies have proven that rewarding children for a doing a good deed is much more effective at getting them to do more good deeds,” explains Dr. Wishnie.
The office was flooded with responses from children doing their good deeds including tutoring other students, volunteering with the elderly, helping a friend in need and much more. “We were ecstatic to see so many children getting involved in their communities and helping others,” Dr. Wishnie continued.
David Hallam took the crown by documenting his many good deeds. However, David himself admits that he only partook in helping others because it was expected of him. After getting involved- participating in CROP walks for hunger, helping neighbors after the flood, and volunteering for the disadvantaged and building them homes, he began to change. He began to see the difference his actions make in other’s lives.
David’s essay was incredibly inspiring and his great character that showed at the award ceremony came through on paper with his essay. David is now looking forward to traveling to Haiti this fall to help a community who has limited jobs and food supply.
Encouraging children to do good deeds will not only affect those who receive the help, but it also helps the child to realize how good it is to help. Rewarding good behavior will cause children to focus more on doing good.
