Thursday’s graduation ceremony memorable for the heat may be the last one held at the high school.
Superintendent Jorden Schiff said at Monday’s school board meeting that, after two years of severe weather, the district “will be looking for alternatives in future years.”
That means renting a large arena, like Rutgers Athletic Center or the Sun Bank Arena in Trenton.
After the meeting, Dr. Schiff said the cost of renting an arena might not be much more expensive than costs the district ran up preparing to hold a ceremony inside or out depending on the weather.
For instance, he said, the district rented a large number of chairs to set up seating in both the gym, football field and air-conditioned Commons where a simulcast was set up, just in case.
One prime consideration for an offsite facility will be size. It must be large enough to allow anyone to attend eliminating the expense and hassle of printing and allocating different types of tickets, he said.
