HILLSBOROUGH: Prizes encourage summer reading

   Summer reading club registration has begun.
   Readers of all ages will “explore the night” this summer, with club activities ending Sept. 8.
   Participants will take part in raffles, trivia questions and activities throughout the summer. Stop by the Youth or Adult Services Desk to join.
   Reading clubs offered are:
   • ”Read with Me” preschool club (birth through age 4, with caregiver).
   • ”Dream Big — Read” school-age club (entering kindergarten through grade 5).
   • ”Own the Night” teen club (entering grades 6 through 12), and
   • ”Between the Covers” adult club (18 and older).
   Special notice: The library will be closed on Wednesday, July 4.
   Upcoming programs intended for adults. Registration is required:
   • Computer courses — An Intro to Facebook class will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 28. What exactly does it mean when someone writes on my wall?
   An Intro to Gmail e-mail class will be held June 28 at 7 p.m. Attendees are requested to sign up for a free Gmail account at www.gmail.com prior to the class.
   A class to show you how to use online resources to find your next great read will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28.
   Registration is required for classes. The library has a limited number of laptops for patrons to use during the class, so register early if you need to use one. Patrons may also bring their own laptops, or just watch the presentation.
   • Indian cooking — Learn how different aromatic spices make this cuisine so tasty and satisfying. A $3 fee is required at the door. Thursday, July 5, at 7 p.m.
   • Friday night movie — “The Artist,” the Academy Award-winning film for Best Picture in 2012, will be shown July 6 at 7 p.m.
   .Here are programs for youngsters. Registration is required.
   • Decorate a T-shirt (for those entering grades K-5) — Celebrate the beginning of the summer reading program, “Dream Big, Read!” You bring a T-shirt and we’ll provide stencils and fabric markers. Cotton/poly blends work best. No registration required. Drop in any time between 3 and 4:45 p.m. Thursday, June 28. Program ends at 5 p.m.
   • Cosmic Tie-Dye (entering grades 6-12) — Bring a black cotton T-shirt to make a cosmic creation using the bleach method. This project is not limited to shirts; feel free to bring dark socks, pillowcases, tote bags, etc.
   Note: We will be using diluted bleach. Wear clothes that you would not mind getting stained. Saturday, July 7, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
