Marisa Thorpe of Hillsborough and Zoe Petitt of Basking Ridge, two students in the culinary arts program at Somerset County Vocational & Technical High School, were awarded the N.J. Restaurant Association Educational Foundation Garden State Silver Plate Scholarship.
The students were selected for the $500 scholarships based upon an essay they submitted and a recommendation from their instructors, John Vingara and Mark Mastrobattista. The students received special recognition at an awards ceremony in May at The Stone Terrace in Hamilton.
The students graduated from the vo-tech school on June 15. Marisa is planning to attend Atlantic County Technology Institute, and Zoe the Culinary Institute of America.
