WEST AMWELL — A local Boy Scout working on a proposed Eagle Scout project that would bring an upgrade to the township’s recycling center got a favorable reaction from the West Amwell Township Committee, Clerk Lora Olsen said.
Boy Scout Paul Cally met with the committee during its June 18 meeting. He proposes building a shed and A-frames for the recycling center.
”Paul said the Eagle Scout project he has in mind would be to build some type of enclosure for the center,” Ms. Olsen said. “He said a goal of the project would be to increase awareness of the importance of recycling.”
It was agreed at the June 18 meeting that Paul would meet soon with the township’s Recycling Committee to discuss his idea further. In addition to getting an OK from the township on his final plan, he also would need the go-ahead from the Boy Scout organization to proceed with actual construction.
To earn his Eagle, Paul would have to organize a team of other Scouts and supervise it, in addition to doing hands-on work himself. He also would have to handle administration, such as obtaining any permits that might be necessary, and produce a written document on the project in order to complete the arduous process of becoming an Eagle Scout, something a very small percentage of Boy Scouts do.
— A census of the dogs in 21-square-mile West Amwell Township continues to be a near possibility. At the June 18 meeting, Ms. Olsen said, the committee continued to discuss hiring one or more census takers for the job. No formal action was taken, but the matter is likely to be considered again soon by the committee, Ms. Olsen said.
Dogs are required to be licensed. To obtain a license, the dog’s owner must pay a fee and produce proof that the animal is current with rabies shots.
