HILLSBOROUGH: Police warn, ‘Don’t let people trick you to leave house’

The township police department warns residents to be wary of unannounced visitors who try to get you to leave your residence — thus opening it to burglary.
On June 25 two homes were burglarized after one person distracted the homeowner while another person entered the victims’ homes and their stole property, said the township police.
According to police, the suspects use various methods of distraction. They include posing as workers from a utility company, volunteering to do yard work and claiming that their dog is running loose on the victim’s property.
Police said so far the victims of the crimes have been elderly; however, they are cautioning all residents to be on the lookout for people offering to perform services not previously arranged.
Residents should remain vigilant of anybody who seems intent on getting them to leave their homes, police said, and should contact the police at 9-1-1 or 908-369-4323 if they observe suspicious activity.
