MANSFIELD — One lifelong resident was honored with a Civic Pride in Volunteerism proclamation at last week’s township meeting.
Barbara Crammer, a lifelong resident and deputy mayor of the township, was honored for her outstanding work in volunteerism, specifically for her involvement in the township’s annual Field Day.
Mansfield Township Mayor Arthur Puglia said he is very proud of all of the work Ms. Crammer has done for the township.
At the meeting, Ms. Crammer was unaware she would be honored, and when her name was announced, a smile of joy crossed her face.
”I was very surprised,” she said.
Mayor Puglia said Ms. Crammer does a great job in helping the township.
”She has participated in Field Day way before I came here,” he said. “I’ve been around in Mansfield for over 30 years. She makes things happen.”
The township decided to honor those citizens that display an outstanding love for helping the community, and Ms. Crammer is the first of many to be honored.
Mayor Puglia said the township plans to honor at least three to four people per year.
Ms. Crammer said next year is the 75th anniversary of Field Day, and the township hopes to make it as memorable as all the past ones.
She couldn’t remember exactly how many years she’s been involved with the committee, but said she has always done something, whether it was building a float or riding on one.
”The committee works really hard on the event every year,” Ms. Crammer said. “We have a great core group of people. We can always use more help with the committee.”
In other news, the township unanimously passed a resolution appropriating $85,000 for the repair of two ambulances for Mansfield Township EMS services.
The next meeting of the township will be July 25 at 7:30 p.m.
