MONTGOMERY — A 4-year-old girl was flown to the hospital after she almost drowned at the Nassau Racquet and Tennis Club on Route 206 on July 3.
The girl was on a trip with 30 other children from the Rainbow Academy of North Brunswick, which had rented out the club’s pool. Police said she was swimming in a 3-foot deep section of the pool with 25 other children, when one of the two lifeguards noticed she appeared to be in distress.
When the lifeguard pulled the girl out of the pool, she was unresponsive and not breathing. When the police and Montgomery EMS arrived at the club at 1:13 p.m., the lifeguards were administering first aid to the child, who became semi-conscious and began breathing.
Police said the child’s injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
The EMS and Somerset MICU then began treating the girl and took her to the intersection of Route 206 and Orchard Road, which was about a mile away. From there, a New Jersey State Police helicopter flew her to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Montgomery Fire Companies 1 and 2 helped with the helicopter landing site.
The incident remains under investigation by Montgomery police, the Montgomery Health Department and the Division of Youth and Family Services.
