Dawidowski leads late East scoring drive

EWING — While Brett Dawidowski would have preferred to be on the winning end of last Thursday’s Sunshine Classic football game, he came away from the game having achieved the No. 1 goal.
”It was mostly about having fun,” the Robbinsville High School graduate said. “The whole moral of the game was to just have fun. The scoreboard doesn’t really matter.”
Dawidowski was part of the East team that came up on the short end of a 16-6 final in the 16th Annual Sunshine Classic, which was played before a crowd of 5,684 at The College of New Jersey. The former Raven quarterback engineered the only scoring drive of the game for the East in the closing minute of the game.
”It was different playing in the summer time,” said Dawidowski, who completed six of his 12 passes for 68 yards in the contest. “The short practices were tough playing with teammates that you had not played with before. The timing, especially with the receivers, was a little off.”
Dawidowski was joined in the game by Allentown High’s Ryan Tedesco, Anthony Toleno, Josh Golub and Shawn Dziepak, as well at New Egypt’s Tyler Miller.
For a player like Dawidowski, getting a chance to play one last game as a high school player before heading to Rhodes College in Memphis was a rewarding experience.
”I am playing with kids that I got to play against for four years,” Dawidowski said. “Now I got to meet them and see what kind of people they are. It’s a different experience.
”It is a good experience playing with the top talent around here. It will help me get ready for college ball. It’s an eye opener. The coaches were real good about getting everyone in.”
And Dawidowski closed the game by taking the East on its only scoring drive.
”That was satisfying,” he said. “You never want to get shut out.”
