In celebration of his 91st birthday and to raise money for the South Brunswick Food Pantry, Aaron Rosloff went skydiving at Crosskeys Airport, in Williamstown, Gloucester County, for the second time on June 1.
”I’m very proud to do it,” Mr. Rosloff said before donning skydiving gear. “Having made the first jump, this is now primarily for the food pantry and other facilities that need this kind of help.”
Last year, Aaron’s Jump raised $3,500 and this year he raised just over the same amount of money.
Mr. Rosloff, former president of the Beth Shalom temple and founding member of the B’nai Tikvah temple, jumped with B’nai Tikvah president Gary Bergman, temple member Mike Weiss, and skydiving instructor Dave Pancake, who was Rosloff’s instructor last time.
Friends of Mr. Rosloff gathered at the airport to watch him jump on his birthday. Among them was Gary Bergman’s wife Barbara Bergman, who has known Rosloff for 30 years.
”I think (Mr. Rosloff) is a terrific guy,” Barbara Bergman said. “He’s fun loving, and I think this is a wonderful thing for him to do. I can only say good things about him.”
After serving in the air force for four years, Rosloff worked as a real estate and insurance agent before retiring at age 65. According to Rosloff, helping others runs in his family.
”(My grandmother) would get day old bread and distribute it to everyone on the block that needed it… the other days, she’d take her wagon to collect clothes,” said Rosloff. “This is part of my heritage.”
At about 3 p.m. Mr. Rosloff, Mr. Bergman, Mr. Weiss, and Mr. Pancake took off and floated down to Earth with the help of multicolored parachutes. However, Mr. Rosloff twisted his right ankle upon landing.
”It was great until the landing,” Mr. Rosloff said with a smile. “The whole flight was fine and I enjoyed it more than last time. Everything went great until the last second.” His ankle was promptly iced to reduce swelling.
”This is a dangerous sport,” said instructor Pancake. He also said he looks forward to jumping with Mr. Rosloff again and wishes him a speedy recovery.
