By Ed Birch, Special Writer
The South Brunswick High School Varsity Football Team, under the direction of new Head Coach Joe Goerge, has started preparing for the 2012 campaign.
The summer conditioning program is currently taking place at the high school on Ridge Road, four days per week, for two hours each day.
The team will have the week of Aug. 6-10 as their summer vacation week.
On Aug. 13, the team will start their pre-season practice schedule beginning at 7:30a.m. The pre-season will conclude with three scrimmages against multiple opponents.
The regular season will open on Sept. 7 with the Vikings visiting the East Brunswick High School Bears.
Two consecutive home games will follow on Sept. 14 and Sept. 21 with the Vikings hosting the Monroe Township Falcons, followed by the Old Bridge Knights.
The team will then hit the road Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, as they will visit Edison High School and the always very competitive Piscataway Chiefs.
South Brunswick High School’s Homecoming festivities will be featured on Oct. 12 as the Hawks of J.P. Stevens visit Vikings territory. The Middletown North Lions compete in a non-conference contest on Oct. 19.
The annual Senior Honor Night highlights the home game against the Sayreville High School Bombers on Oct. 26.
The regular season ends early Thanksgiving morning as this year’s traditional Thanksgiving Day battle will take place at 10 a.m. in North Brunswick against the Raiders to compete for the Mayor’s Cup.
All games, except Thanksgiving, are scheduled for a 7 p.m. kick off.
