Three upcoming programs at the public library on South Branch Road should delight young and old alike.
John Andrews of the N.J. Astrological Association will take the audience on a “ride” through the solar system at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 25. He will show astrophotos from space probes, land-based telescopes and the Hubble space telescope.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, July 26, New Jersey photographer and storyteller Walter Choroszewski will bring his pictures, stories and humor for a presentation covering geology, geography, history and fun trivia about the state. The program is intended for those age 8 as well as adults.
Rick Mikula, also known as “The Butterfly Guy,” will explain the life of these creatures at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1.

• So You Want To Be A Fiction Writer — Local author Chris Redding will lead a writer’s workshop, “Layering: It’s Not Just For Cakes.” You will construct a scene by coordinating story elements, and working with two pages of dialogue to transform your draft into a fully functioning scene. Thursday, July 19, at 6:30 p.m.
• ”Sourlands” film — A documentary about the Sourland Mountain forest oasis in the center of New Jersey — partially in Hillsborough — and how it has survived the bulldozers of development. There will be a discussion with director Jared Flesher. Friday, July 20, at 7 p.m.
• Computer class — Part 1 of a two-part class on an Introduction to Microsoft Word 2007 will be led at 3 p.m. Monday, July 23. The second class will be held at the same time on July 30.
Registration is required. The library has a limited number of laptops for patrons to use, so register early if you need to use one. Patrons may also bring their own laptops, or just watch the presentation.
• Agricultural leader — Learn about agricultural inventions, innovations, and discoveries made in the Garden State — and we’re talking tomatoes, blueberries, cranberries and peaches. Refreshments will be served. Saturday, July 28, at 11 a.m.
• Natural cleaning alternatives — Holistic counselor Michele Caws will discuss how to use natural substances to clean and disinfect your home. Tuesday, July 31, at 7 p.m.

• Preschool of Rock (ages 3 and older and adults) — Children will discover, improvise, perform and have fun as they rock out. Thursday, July 19 at 3 p.m.
• Music to Move (ages 2-6) — Ann Wild leads an interactive musical experience for the child and parent/caregiver. Monday, July 23, at 10 a.m.
• Summer movie (ages 7 and older) — See “Hoot!,” based on the popular children’s book. Rated PG. Monday, July 23, at 3 p.m.
• Pajama Party (age 3 and older) — Children’s recording artist Yosi rocks the house with a humorous pajama party. Monday, July 23, at 7 p.m.
• Rhyme Time (for ages newborn to 24 months) — Join us for 20 minutes of nursery rhyme fun. Tuesday, July 24, at 10:30 a.m.
• Bats at the Library (entering grades K to 2) — Stories, crafts and activities. Tuesday, July 24, at 3 p.m.
• Days of Knights (entering grades K-5 only) — Young learners will go back to medieval times. Volunteers will have their knees buckle under the weight of real steel armor, experience the solitude inside a jousting helm and feel the surge of wielding a knight’s broadsword. Tuesday, July 24, at 7 p.m.
• Story and crafts (ages 2-6) — Listen to a story on the Olympic torch and create a craft to take home. Wednesday, July 25, at 10 and 11 a.m.
• Lego Buddies (grades 8 to 12) — Reliable teen volunteers are needed to provide assistance during Lego Club programs. Volunteers will earn community service hours. Wednesday, July 25, at 2:30 p.m.
• Lego Club (entering grades 1-5) — Hang out with other Lego maniacs and have fun building together. Wednesday, July 25, at 3 p.m.
• Summer Storytime (ages 2-6) — Family storytime on “Good Night, Sleep Tight” on Thursday, July 26, at 10 a.m.
• Spin, Pop, Boom! (entering grades K-5 only and adults) — In a 45-minute presentation, the Mad Scientist of West Jersey will use audience members to spark curiosity. Thursday, July 26, at 4 p.m.
• Kindermusik (newborn to 3 years) — Join Kindermusik’s Ms. Jenni for music that helps children develop language, literacy, social and listening skills. Monday, July 30, at 10 a.m.
• Stage shows — Youth Stages will presents two shows on Monday, July 30.
Kids entering grades K-2 are invited to “Midnight on the Moon” at 3 p.m.The Magic Tree House whisks Jack and Annie off to the moon — and the future. ‘’The show will enact space flight and weightlessness!
At 4 p.m. “Just a Dream” for kids entering grades 3-5 is literally a wake-up call. Children will be nudged to look at the environment and the impact that humans have — and may continue to have — on it.
• Movie-fighting magic (entering grades 6-12) — Professor Stephen Davis will show secrets behind a believable stage fight. In the second part, kids will learn how to apply trauma simulation makeup to look like they just stepped out of an action movie. This is a physical activity; dress comfortably and be ready to move. Monday, July 30, at 7 p.m.
• Rhyme Time (newborn to 24 months) — Twenty minutes of nursery rhymes. Tuesday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m.
• Night creatures (entering grades 1-6) — Why are some animals active during the day, while others prefer the dark? The N.J. Academy for Aquatic Sciences program will show how animals have adapted, and introduce live examples up close. No children in strollers or younger children, please. Tuesday, July 31, at 3 p.m.
• Story and craft (ages 2-6) — Listen to a story on dream catchers and create a craft to take home. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 10 and 11 a.m.
• Special storytime (ages 2-6) — The Fancy Nancy books will be featured Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 3 p.m.
