NEW HOPE: Kehilat Hanahar welcomes new Shul School director

Kehilat HaNahar has announced that Rabbi Michelle Greenfield is the new Shul School director.
Since assuming her position on July 1, Rabbi Michelle has been busy meeting and talking with parents and students about her new role. “I am looking forward to getting to know the Jewish community here at Kehilat HaNahar. It is exciting to see how much creativity there is at the Shul School as teachers and students learn together. One of the most important things for me is to treat each child as an individual. Each student has particular needs, and with my background in special education and Kehilat HaNahar’s ACCESS Program for Students with Special Needs, we can offer a supportive environment and a meaningful Jewish education experience for all classes — along with some fun!”
Rabbi Michelle, a resident of Philadelphia, graduated from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Wyncote, Pennsylvania, and received a bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University.
In Bucks County, she served as a student rabbi at the Bristol Jewish Center in Bristol.
Born and raised in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, she remembers the inspiring teachers (who were rabbinical students) she had in high school . “Whenever I needed help, they were my little Jewish community I could turn to. Now, I want to give back to my students the same way.”
The Shul School at Kehilat HaNahar is open for registration and accepting students ages 4-16 for the 2012-13 year. Located in the historic New Hope schoolhouse on West Mechanic Street, classes will run for 30 weeks from Sept. 9 through May 19.
The curriculum covers holidays, prayers, Jewish culture, history, ethics, theology, Torah study and exposure to the Hebrew language. The program is designed to prepare students for a Bar/Bat Mitzvah and to continue Jewish learning beyond B’nei Mitzvah.
