Guest Speaker at Alzheimer’s Support Group

By Suzanne Lyon
Dr. Michele Kinderman Visits Alzheimer’s Support Group

Dr. Michele Kinderman from Senior Psychological Care in Bridgewater works with seniors and their families providing individualized counseling and guidance. Her private practice assists them in tackling the unique challenges faced during later life. An example is the transitions families go through when they are dealing with the issues related to dementia.
Dr, Kinderman was invited to Emeritus to educate and offer advice at their monthly Alzheimer’s support group. She joined caregivers with a focus on symptoms and behaviors associated with dementia as well as offering proven techniques, strategies, and approaches for people dealing with difficult issues on a daily basis.
Emeritus and Dr. Kinderman agree that the important thing to remember is to always remain respectful and offer solutions that protect a person’s dignity. Validating a person’s feelings no matter the situation is also a key to positive communication. People attending offered their insights and suggestions to one another as well. One person even shared information about a research test trial that his mother is currently participating in.
Suzanne Lyon, Memory Care Director at Emeritus, is the group facilitator that was trained as a volunteer by the Alzheimer’s Association. Anyone is welcome to attend. It is a safe and confidential environment. The next meeting will be Wednesday, August 8th at 1:00 pm in the sunroom at Emeritus. Please call the Concierge if you would like to attend at 908-431-1300.
