The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (The Mormons) in West Windsor was a beehive of activity recently as 13 congregations of the church from Middlesex to Ocean County took part in a church-wide "Day of Service"
Three events took place at the Princeton Ward. A barbecue was held on the lawn for residents of 5 local group homes managed by Enable, About 50 residents, staff, and church members enjoyed burger, hot dogs, chicken, homemade salads and bowls of fruit provided by the church members. They enjoyed Bingo, face painting, and games provided by the church’s Young Women’s group of Princeton Second Ward.
At the church entrance, Princeton First Ward organized and boxed donations of non-perishable food items collected by all 13 participating congregations. Donations filled a box truck and were donated to Crisis Ministry of Trenton and Princeton to be distributed in their food pantry in Trenton.
Inside the church, members were busy filling 105 backpacks with school supplies collected by the children of the 13 Central Jersey congregations to be donated to Foster and Adoptive Family Services (FAFS) a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting children in foster care and their foster parents. Patty LeSueur of Montgomery Twp., who organized the drive, remarked "It has been such a privilege to witness so many people wanting to give to the often forgotten children of our area. We were able not only to surpass our initial goal of 100 backpacks but also to deliver enough additional supplies to fill another 100 backpacks."
