HILLSBOROUGH: Kids can learn about stage craft

   Stage craft and actual shows should delight children in public library programs on Monday, July 30.
   Youth Stages will presenttwo shows.
   Kids entering grades K-2 are invited to “Midnight on the Moon” at 3 p.m. The Magic Tree House whisks Jack and Annie off to the moon and the future. Their mission is to find the last ‘M’ thing that will free Morgan from the spell.
   At 4 p.m. “Just a Dream” for kids entering grades 3-5 is literally a wake-up call. Children will be nudged to look at the environment and the impact that humans have — and may continue to have — on it.
   At 7 p.m. Professor Stephen Davis will show kids entering grades 6-12 some secrets behind a believable stage fight. In the second part, kids will learn how to apply trauma simulation makeup to look like they just stepped out of an action movie. This is a hands-on, physical activity; dress comfortably and be ready to move.
   Upcoming programs intended for adults. Registration is required:
   • Agricultural leader — Learn about agricultural inventions, innovations, and discoveries made in the Garden State — and we’re talking tomatoes, blueberries, cranberries and peaches. Refreshments will be served. Saturday, July 28, at 11 a.m.
   • Computer class — Part 2 of a two-part class on an Introduction to Microsoft Word 2007 will be led at 3 p.m. Monday, July 30.
   An introduction to Microsoft Excel will be held Tuesday, July 31, at 2 p.m.
   Registration is required. The library has a limited number of laptops for patrons to use, so register early if you need to use one. Patrons may also bring their own laptops, or just watch the presentation.
   • Natural cleaning alternatives — Holistic counselor Michele Caws will discuss how all-natural products can purify and simplify your life. Find out how to use natural substances to clean and disinfect your home. Tuesday, July 31, at 7 p.m.

   • Butterflies (ages 6 through adult) — Rick Mikula, known as “The Butterfly Guy,” will explain the life of these creatures at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1.
   • Journal Keeping — Kim Leatherdale, a registered art therapist and journal writer, will help you create a journal as a guide to what you are grateful for, clarify what you want in life, or set and keep goals. Saturday, Aug. 11, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

• Kindermusik (newborn to 3 years) — Join Kindermusik’s Ms. Jenni for music that helps children develop language, literacy, social and listening skills. Monday, July 30, at 10 a.m.
   • Rhyme Time (newborn to 24 months) — Twenty minutes of nursery rhyme fun. Tuesday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m.
   • Night creatures (entering grades 1-6) — Why are some animals active during the day, while others prefer the dark? The N.J. Academy for Aquatic Sciences program will show how different animals are adapted for their preferences, and introduce live examples up close. No children in strollers or younger children, please. Tuesday, July 31, at 3 p.m.
   • Story and craft (ages 2-6) — Listen to a story on dream catchers and create a craft to take home. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 10 and 11 a.m.
   • Special storytime (ages 2-6) — The Fancy Nancy books will be featured Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 3 p.m.
   • Summer storytime (ages 2-6) — A family program on the moon and stars will be led Thursday, Aug. 2, at 10 a.m.
   • Collagraph making (entering grades K-5) — Students will create images using a collagraph process in which an assortment of materials are applied to a surface and then printed. ’The program will be presented by the Print Making Center of New Jersey at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2.
   • Dragons & Dreams (ages 5 through adults) — Join us as Scienceteller teaches about the science of fire and ice by telling a tale using experiments of flash paper, exploding bottles, dry ice and more. Thursday, Aug. 2, at 7 p.m.
   • Music to Move by with Ann Wild (ages 2-6) — An interactive musical experience for the child and parent/caregiver. Monday, Aug. 6, at 10 a.m.
   • Glow-in-the-dark craft program (entering grades 6-12) — The library will provide craft supplies and you supply the creativity. Monday, Aug. 6, at 5 p.m.

   • Summer movie (ages 7 and older)— “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole,” based on the children’s book. Rated PG and 97 minutes long. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 3 p.m.
   • Silly Sleepy Sing Along (ages 4 through adult) — Join Kurt Gallagher and giggle, dance and clap hands to some silly and sleepy songs. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 7 p.m.

   • Summer Storytime (ages 2-6) —”Counting Sheep” on at 10 a.m.
   • Lego Buddies (grades 8 to 12) — Reliable teen volunteers are needed to provide assistance during Lego Club programs. Volunteers will earn community service hours. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 2:30 p.m.
   • Lego Club (entering grades 1-5) — Hang out with other Lego maniacs and have fun building together. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 3 p.m.
   • Cosmic Space — Mad Science of West Jersey leads a voyage to discover space and take a look at planets, moons, comets, and the stars. Children will return from their mission with their own piece of the skies! Thursday, Aug. 9, at 3 p.m. for kids entering grades K-2, and at 4 p.m. for kids entering grades 3-5.
