MANVILLE: Mark Gregor will replace Lou Fischer as Borough Council candidate for Democrats

Amid ongoing health concerns, Borough Councilman Lou Fischer will step aside as a Democratic candidate for re-election.
Mark Gregor will replace him as a candidate for Borough Council, according to a press release from the Democratic Committee. He would join Ron Skirkanish as a candidate on the fall ballot.
Mr. Fischer, 51 and a printer by trade, won one Democratic nod in the June primary to seek another term on the Borough Council. He said his health — he had his fourth heart operation in August 2010 — told him it was time to slow down.
Mr. Gregor, a Manville resident for more than 40 years, has been a leader in Boy Scout Troop 193, the Manville Jaycees and various fundraising and volunteering events as well as being a trustee to the veterans of Manville. He also volunteers time for other events and has been a leader in fundraising and improvement efforts for VFW Post 2290 in Manville.
Mr. Gregor and his wife, Deborah, have three sons, Mark, Christopher and Michael.
Ms. Gregor, who works in the Manville School system, also volunteers her time to youth programs throughout the year.
”For all of my adult life, I have proudly called Manville home, and this is where my wife and I chose to raise our children” said Mr. Gregor, who said he wanted to focus his energy connecting all voices within Manville’s neighborhoods. “Our borough has faced so many challenges over the years, but the strength of our communities has always offered us the ability to pull through and become even stronger.”
Mayor Angelo Corradino, also a Democrat, said, “I know that Mark’s know-how and can-do attitude will be welcome additions to the local governing body” as the council tackles flooding issues and advances sensible plans for redevelopment, he said.
Mr. Fischer said, “While I have, unfortunately, had to put aside my own campaign for council, my commitment and dedication to Manville is unceasing. I would like to thank all my supporters and respectfully encourage them to offer the same support to Mark Gregor and Ron Skirkanish so that, together, we can move Manville forward in November.”
