Around 200 people gathered at Reichler Park Tuesday night to celebrate the annual SBAA Travel Team Picnic.
The event included girls participating in the 8U, 10U, 12U and 16U teams this year, according to organizers.
Several girls took home awards at the end of the evening, including 10U player Gracie Gremek who won the Sid Lee Lady Viking award.
SBAA Softball Director Lee Brancaccio said the award is determined by three members of the executive board and goes to the young lady that demonstrates not only skill, but sportsmanship, leadership and ability.
”Gracie meets all of these points,” Mr. Brancaccio said in an email Wednesday. “Gracie has grown as a player each year and as a young lady. She wants to learn more and more about softball every game.”
Mr. Brancaccio said Gracie loves to ask questions to learn why things are happening the way they are.
”Gracie is always smiling,” Mr. Brancaccio said. “Even after a tough game where she may have had a bad game, she always has a bright smile and moves on to the next game.”
Lillian Torres of the 8U team won the Junior Sid Lee Lady Viking Award as well, according to Mr. Brancaccio.
The other girls nominated for the award included, (10U “Gold”) Madilyn Dombrowski, (10U “Black”) Gracie Gremek, (12U) Emily Collins and (16U) Christen Biondolillo.
”I would love it if every girl could win, but the fact that they were nominated shows how much their coach thinks of them as a player and a person,” Mr. Brancaccio said.
