FLORENCE: Boat dock fees doubled

By Julie Asher, Special Writer
FLORENCE — July 11, the Township Council voted unanimously to double boat dock fees at Clark T. Carey Memorial Park.
The new rates will take effect Jan. 1, 2013.
The current daily rate is $5, and the annual rate is $25 for township residents. For residents of New Jersey, the daily rate is $10 and the annual rate, $50.
As of Jan. 1, township residents will pay $10 per day or $40 a year. New Jersey residents will pay $20 a day or $80 annually.
Those from out of state must pay $50 per day or $500 a year.
Florence Township police patrol the park on a regular basis. Boat sticker are available from police at the Municipal Building at 711 Broad St. The hours are Monday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Also approved at the meeting was payment to Marine Maintenance & Construction Co. for work done at the dock.
Ed Menchaca, head of the project at Marine Maintenance, said the company made and installed the dock and galvanized control arms that stop the dock from moving. It moved it from its facility in Clayton, New Jersey, to the boatyard and insured it until is was turned over to Florence. The dock comes with a five-year guarantee.
Mr. Menchaca said he talked with members of the Florence Township Yacht Club, who meet in their building at the west end of Carey Park. Those members provided input into the project.
”It was a pleasure working with the township and the Fishing Club,” he said.
Township Assistant Business Administrator Tom Sayhol said, “The new dock structure is a lighter weight construction so that not as much material is submerged. It is more buoyant, and, therefore, a lot of the debris from the river will pass by rather than collect at the dock.”
