Discovery: September 14 and 15, 2012, 11 a.m.
Everything goes in Rago’s Discovery sale, where all lots are unreserved. Friday’s sale includes original and vintage art, furnishings, tableware, Asian, collectibles, books and ephemera, ethnographic property. Saturday’s sale is all 20th century: early and modern design, including furniture, lighting rugs, pottery, glass, painting, prints, photography. The high bid, no matter how low, takes it home. Great Estates: Sunday, September 16, 2012, 11 a.m.
Estate auctions fill Rago’s with 18th, 19th and early 20th c. furnishings, decorative and fine arts including bronzes, prints, Asian art and antiques, Americana, Native American, glass and porcelain, militaria and coins. Some top lots to date include a jeweled Mughal dagger, a collection of George T. Downing abolitionist papers, a pair of French doré bronze candelabra once owned by Pearl Buck, decorative French furnishings from Rittenhouse Square, Chinese ivory figures, art glass and a collection of Lotton glass from a Princeton home. A day dedicated to a selection of American, European and modern art pottery from the 20th century by famous ceramicists, including Rookwood, Saturday Evening Girls, Edwin and Mary Scheier, Cowan, Ernst Wahliss, Roseville, Fulper, Weller, North Dakota School of Mines, Marblehead, Stangl, Toshiko Takaezu, and Van Briggle. Early 20th C. Design: Saturday, October 27, 2012
This sale features Christopher Forbes’ collection of American Arts and Crafts from his Colorado retreat, with much rare Roycroft. The sale also includes early 20th century furnishings, lighting and metal ware, pottery, art glass, woodblock prints, textiles and more. (Previews begin October 20)
