Christopher Gramiccioni Christopher Gramiccioni has been named Monmouth County’s acting prosecutor. Gramiccioni was appointed by the state Attorney General and sworn in as the acting prosecutor on July 1 by state Superior Court Judge Thomas F. Scully.
“[My] goal is to just have thoughtful and aggressive law enforcement to protect the citizens of the county. That’s always been the mantra,” said Gramiccioni, who is a former assistant U.S. attorney.
“At the same time, I am going to try to continue the practice of being in touch with the public,” Gramiccioni said, adding that he plans to become more thorough with the practice of sending out press releases to keep residents informed of the activities of the prosecutor’s office.
Gramiccioni steps into the county’s top law enforcement post and succeeds Peter Warshaw Jr., who will become a Superior Court judge. Gramiccioni, 40, served as first assistant prosecutor since February 2011.
Richard Incremona, formerly a deputy first assistant prosecutor and director of investigations, will become first assistant prosecutor.
Kevin Clark, the deputy first assistant prosecutor, will retain his current title. Marc LeMieux, assistant prosecutor, will take the reins as director of investigations.
Gramiccioni, a former officer in the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps, was born at Fort Monmouth in Eatontown.
He completed his undergraduate studies in economics and geography at Towson University in Maryland, and then earned a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law.
Gramiccioni’s tours as a JAG officer had him working in San Diego as a prosecutor, defense attorney and legal assistance adviser from 1999 through 2001. He prosecuted hundreds of cases during that time, also providing at-sea legal services to military personnel attached to a number of vessel commands and handling cases at other naval bases on the West Coast.
He served as special assistant U.S. attorney in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 2001, prosecuting cases stemming from protests of naval activities on the island of Vieques.
From 2001 to 2002, he worked in Washington, D.C., as an appellate government counsel.
Gramiccioni left active duty in 2002 and is commissioned as a lieutenant commander.
After that time, he began serving as an assistant U.S. attorney in New Jersey. His time there had him working in the Special Prosecutions Division, the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Unit and the Terrorism Unit.
In that office, he handled cases that involved extortion and bribery; mail, wire and bank fraud; money laundering; drug crimes; material support of terrorism cases; financial and tax crimes; and gang-related violent crimes.
While doing a yearlong stint at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland, Gramiccioni handled a multitude of federal criminal investigations and prosecutions, including cases dealing with material support of terrorism; violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practice Act and export control regulations; child pornography; and mail, bank and wire fraud.
In his role as first assistant prosecutor for Monmouth County, he supervised more than 350 employees and oversaw a $23 million operating budget, also acting as a liaison with court personnel and county elected officials. In addition, he coordinated law enforcement efforts with more than 40 police departments in municipalities throughout the county.
He lives in Wall Township with his wife, Deborah, and their three children.
