The amazing six-figure rebate

A utomakers frequently use cash rebates and other financial incentives to help tweak sales of slower-selling models, but rarely do they amount to more than a few thousand dollars on even the costliest cars. But hold onto your steering wheels because we’ve unearthed an all-time whopper of a newcar discount.

Maybach dealers are being granted a staggering $100,000 cash to help sweeten the deals on their ultra-luxurious Type 57 and Type 62 sedans. Granted, these are among the most expensive rides on the road — retailing at between $376,300 and $467,600 (not counting options or customization) – but even the wealthy enjoy getting a great deal, right?

It seems the farther upscale, yet woefully unprofitable, division of Mercedes-Benz’s parent company, Daimler, will be kaput at the end of the 2012 model year, and the automaker is doing whatever it can to help its network of 42 dealers avoid being stuck with unsold stock.
