Bollywood dance
leads to exercise
   Wednesday, Aug. 1 — Teens and adults are welcomed at a Bollywood dance and exercise seminar in the aerobics room of the Hillsborough branch of the Somerset Valley YMCA, East Mountain Road. Continues on Wednesdays at 8:35 p.m. until Aug. 15. Email questions to [email protected].

fishing derby night
   Friday, Aug. 3 — Annual township campout and fishing derby in Ann Van Middlesworth Park. Family night of camping, fishing, fun and games.
School band groups
sponsor car wash
   Saturday, Aug. 4 — Hillsborough High School Marching Band and Color Guard students will wash cars as a fundraiser from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Hillsborough Elementary School, Amwell Road at Route 206. Cost is $5 per car or $7 per van. Another car wash is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Purple Heart group
sponsors ceremony
   Tuesday, Aug. 7 — Local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart will sponsor services to honor medal recipients and dedicate monument at 6:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building’s Garden of Honor. Purple Heart medals are given to soldiers wounded or killed in battle.
Dining at IHOP
helps cheerleaders
   Monday, Aug. 13 — Eat at IHOP on Route 206 in Hillsborough from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and support the Hillsborough Dukes Mitey Mite cheerleaders (2nd- and 3rd-graders.) IHOP will give the team 20 percent of profits earned in the 12-hour period. Money will help fund trip for cheerleaders to exhibit their routine at Walt Disney World in December. Mention Dukes cheerleaders to waiter or cashier.
Rotary Club to host
its annual carnival
   Aug. 14-19 — Annual Rotary Club fair in the Lowe’s parking lot in the Hillsborough Promenade. Rides, games, food. 6-10 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and 2-8 p.m. Sunday.
Arts school offers
‘Little Women’
   Aug. 17-19 — “Little Women, The Broadway Musical,” will be performed at the Allegra School of Performing Arts in Hillsborough. The director is Nicky Singer, a theater student at Rider University and a local playwright.
   Shows are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. with an understudy performance Saturday at 1 p.m. — all at the Somerset Valley Playhouse, Amwell Road.
Municipal building
hosts blood drive
   Sunday, Aug. 19 — The Blood Center of New Jersey will give a $10 ShopRite gift card to anyone who donates platelets or whole blood from 7:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the municipal complex, 379 South Branch Road. Teens age 16 can give with parents’ permission. 973-676-4700, ext. 197.

Walkers, runners
sought for run
   Sunday, Sept. 30 — Steps Together is a united team that will participate in the Steeplechase Distance Run in Hillsborough on Sept. 30. For a $25 donation, participants receive guided training via email and invites to attend local training sessions. Eight beneficiaries — five families and three nonprofits — benefit. Participants select who they’d like to participate on behalf of.

   Alzheimer’s support group — The Alzheimer’s Association has a support group in Hillsborough. Family members and caregivers come together to share information and support in a safe, confidential atmosphere.
   Meetings are the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. in the sunroom at Emeritus Senior Living, 60 Auten Road. Call 431-1300 if attending.
   Divorce support group — A non-denominational support group to help separated and divorced people to a new beginning. The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the month, 7-8:30 p.m., at Hillsborough Presbyterian Church, Route 206 at Homestead Road. 908-295-6740.
   Alternative worship — “Bagels, Bible and Belief,” at 9:30 a.m. summer Sundays at the Hillsborough Presbyterian Church, located on the corner of Homestead Road and Route 206. Come casual, have a bagel and lemonade and explore “The First Seven Days: An Introduction to Celtic Spirituality.”
