MANVILLE: Police blotter for week of July 23-29

   Police were notified about a Bekins moving truck parked on North Street by 19th Avenue with the driver walking up on the railroad tracks at 12:20 p.m. July 23. Patrols found Robert Benedict, 44, of Temecula, Calif., putting quarters on the tracks. He was advised to stop.

   Lifeline reported an alert from Roosevelt Avenue with a man in front of the house “and is stuck” at 3 p.m. July 23. John Falgi, 54, was turned over to the rescue squad.

* * *

   Robert Siciliano of Arrow Motors came to headquarters at about 8 p.m. July 23 to report his 2006 Chrysler had been stolen from the Reading Cinema lot on North Main Street between 1 and 4 p.m. The car was valued at $18,000, was entered into the national crime registry.

   DPW Director Phil Petrone reported a tree and wires down in front of a Boesel Avenue home at 8 a.m. July 24. Patrols responded and all utilities were notified. The road department put up barricades.

   Patrolman Ryan Steier reported a recovered 2003 Mercedes-Benz at Adesa Auto Auction at about 10 a.m. July 24. It was found to be stolen in Trenton.

   A South 21st Avenue man came to headquarters at 11:07 a.m. July 24 to give police the serial number of a hedge trimmer he reported stolen April 22. The item was entered into the national crime computer.

   A South 8th Avenue woman called police from out of town at about 1 p.m. July 24 to say she thought she might have left her stove on. Patrols responded, found the stove was off and advised the woman.

   An anonymous caller reported that a man kept walking in and out of the Kyle Street [gro: tunnel : ]and acting suspiciously at 3:11 p.m. July 24. No one was there when patrols checked.

   A Jasinski Avenue man came to headquarters at 6:42 p.m. July 24 to report he had misplaced his license somewhere between Manville and Bridgewater and wanted it on the record

   A street light fell in the Quick Chek parking lot at Brooks Boulevard and North Main Street, a caller said at 7:19 p.m. July 24. PSE&G and the store management were notified. Patrols put caution tape around the area.

   Patrols reported being out with William Deviny, 25, of Manville, who was found to have a pending warrant from Piscataway, at 7:49 p.m. July 24. He was processed and released after posting $750 bail. Jamie Valney, 24, of Manville was subsequently charged with obstruction, processed and released on her own recognizance.

   Police issued bicycle summonses to three juveniles on South 2nd Avenue at 8:47 p.m. July 24.

   Someone complained of noise from people playing basketball on Brooks Boulevard at 10:46 p.m. July 24. Police found one person, who was sent on his way.

   Staten Island police called at 2:38 p.m. July 25 and said they had recovered a vehicle stolen in Manville on May 22. The vehicle was taken out of the national tracking system. NYPD said it would contact the owner.

   Patrolman John Granahan reported at 3:06 p.m. July 25 that, while qualifying with his firearm at the borough pistol range, a hot shell casing ejected from the weapon and landed between his safety glasses and cheek, causing a minor burn.

   A caller reported that a 22-year-old Manville woman had passed out at a bar on Brooks Boulevard at 1:13 a.m. July 26. She was taken to Somerset Medical Center.

   At 5:32 p.m. July 26 Patrolman Nick Franzoso found a wallet reported lost near the VFW by an East Camplain Road man. The man was called to pick it up.

   At 7:11 p.m. July 26 a tent collapsed at the Sacred Heart Church festival on South Main Street. Patrols responded and helped secure the tent. There were no injuries.

   A caller said that a tree from a neighboring yard fell on her vehicle on North Street at 7:35 p.m. July 26.

* * *

   Luiz D. Naranjo, 25, of Bound Brook was charged with urinating in public place near Foxtails club on South Street at 10:22 p.m. July 26. He was processed and released.

* * *

   A Weston Sunoco employee on South Main Street reported at 7:21 a.m. July 27 that the soda machine was damaged sometime overnight. Patrols found the incident had happened between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. No money or soda was taken.

   A North 4th Avenue man came to headquarters at 10:49 a.m. July 27 to say that at 6:45 a.m. he had been bitten on both legs by two dogs as he was walking on the sidewalk on North 2nd Avenue. No one was home at the property he said the dogs came from. The man went to Somerset Medical Center for treatment and the county Board of Health was notified.

   At 2:56 p.m. July 27 Capt. Mark Sniscak and Sgt. James Paterno met with Reading Cinema managers on North Main Street to go over theater safety. (Editor’s note: The mass shooting at the Aurora, Colorado, movie theater had happened about 10 hours earlier.)

   An anonymous caller said an elderly woman had a piece of metal stuck to the underside of her car in the Bank of America parking lot at 3:28 p.m. July 27.

   A South Street man came to headquarters at 3:46 p.m. July 27 to report that someone had used his ATM card to buy items totaling $1,200.

* * *

   A 24-year old North Arlington Street woman came to headquarters at 4:38 p.m. to say she was being harassed on Facebook by a man, 29, of Hillsborough. She was advised of her rights and given a complaint form.

   County communications reported at 4:57 p.m. July 27 a burglary of a house on North 7th Avenue. Patrols found that numerous pieces of gold jewelry, with a total value of $9,750, had been removed between noon and 3 p.m.

   At 6:44 p.m. July 27 Patrolman Todd Widitz reported receiving a neck burn at the range during a training detail. No treatment was required at this time.

   Reynaldo Alonso, 42, of Bridgewater was charged with driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle stop on Duke’s Parkway at about 2 a.m. July 28. His car was towed and he was released to a friend.

   Glenn Musumeci, 57, of Manville was charged with disorderly conduct at 2:12 a.m. July 28 after a woman reported an unwanted guest outside her residence on West Camplain Road. He was released.

* * *

   Building Inspector John Tamburini asked police at 9:21 July 28 to check a Kennedy Boulevard building for unwanted people on the property and hazardous wiring. There was no electricity to the building and power was being generated by a power inverter from a vehicle battery.

   Patrolman Nickolas [gro: sic : ]Franzoso stood by as a man removed items from his house at1:15 p.m. July 28. Police said two people had a dispute over a table saw. A power master pellet gun was taken and placed into evidence for destruction.

   A man reported at 11:11 p.m. July 28 that 18 restaurant water pans, with a total value of $813, were stolen from his North Main Street business.

* * *

   A caller said that a landscaper was throwing debris in the road while kids were playing at 12:17 p.m. July 29. Patrols spoke to the Fable Street homeowner, who said he would clean up the debris.

* * *

   A South 20th Avenue man said at 2:05 p.m. July 28 someone hit his parked vehicle. It was recorded as a hit and run.

   At 5:46 p.m. July 29 a West Camplain Road woman reported the theft of a Mac Pro laptop, valued at $2,671, from her home. Detectives entered it into the national crime records.
