CRANBURY – The Cranbury Board of Education is losing another member this month.
According to Joyce Picariello, business administrator for the school district, board member Nicole Pormilli resigned her post effective Aug. 31.
The board will officially accept Ms. Pormilli’s resignation at the Aug. 21 public meeting, according to President, Lynne Schwarz.
Ms. Pormilli, who was just re-elected in April and is currently serving her second term, was hired to be the assistant superintendent in the South Plainfield School District, according to Ms. Picariello.
”We would like to offer our congratulations to Nicole for her new job and thank her for her wisdom and effort during her years on the Board of Education,” Ms. Picariello said.
Ms. Pormilli said she will no longer be able to invest the amount of time necessary for her to be a full participating member of the board with the change in jobs.
”Additionally, to avoid any appearance of conflict, I felt it best to resign,” Ms. Pormilli said. “I will miss being part of a team that thinks deeply about what is best for all students.”
Ms. Pormilli is the second board member to resign in the past several months.
Former board member Kathy Wasson submitted her resignation in June because her family is moving to South Carolina.
With Ms. Pormilli and Ms. Wasson’s resignations, there are now two open positions for the board to fill before the school year starts in September.
”The board would like to try and fill both openings at its meeting on Aug. 21,” Ms. Picariello said. “Letters of interest (from residents who want to fill the seats) should be sent to me no later than Aug. 10. The board will interview interested candidates in an executive session on Aug. 21.”
Ms. Pormilli has been in education for more than 20 years, working as a school administrator, educational consultant, and central office administrator.
She most recently was a director of assessment and instructional support for the South Brunswick School District.
Officials in that district said that the South Brunswick Board of Education voted July 30 to accept her resignation from the $95,030 position.
”(Cranbury) is a community dedicated to the education of its children,” Ms. Pormilli said. “Therefore, I am confident that whoever is selected as my replacement will have the same passion and dedication to continuing to support what’s best for Cranbury School and its students.”
According to Ms. Schwarz, Ms. Pormilli has been an asset to the board with her experience with curriculum and instruction, as well as her knowledge of the public education system.
”We will miss her contributions from this side of the table and we wish her much success in her new job,” Ms. Schwarz said.
For those interested in interviewing for the vacant seats, send a letter of interest to Joyce Picariello at 23 North Main Street, Cranbury, New Jersey, 08512.
