NEW HOPE — What makes you feel pleasantly nostalgic?
Old songs, maybe? Or old movies?
How about old cars? Antique and classic cars in great condition, that is. If that’s for you, then the good news is that the New Hope-Solebury Community Association is sponsoring the 55th annual New Hope Automobile Show, presented by Porsche.
This long-popular antique and classic car show will take place on Aug. 11 and 12 at the New Hope-Solebury High School, 182 W. Bridge St.
The show will continue the tradition of providing educational scholarships for students at New Hope-Solebury High School and several civic groups in the region — including local sports clubs (baseball, soccer, football), emergency squads and firehouses.
For 2011, the show donated several thousand dollars in scholarships as part of the New Hope-Solebury Community Association.
The school’s grounds will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tickets to be sold at the gate: $5 for the general public, $3 for seniors and free for military and children under 12. Service members and their immediate families attend free. Onsite parking is available for $5 a day.
This year, the show will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Chevrolet. The collectible auto show poster features a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Nomad, photographed by Michael Furman.
”We are thrilled to be returning for a second year as sponsor of the 55th New Hope Automobile Show,” said Mike Pallardy, Porsche Area East vice president. “Last year the show was a huge success thanks to all the efforts of the many volunteers and organizers. It’s gratifying to know that we’ve helped contribute to academic scholarships for many young students in the New Hope-Solebury community.”
Deborah Lang, Auto Show committee member, said: “Having Porsche as our presenting sponsor for another year is a huge honor for everyone involved in the show. Last year, the Porsche tent was a highlight for all attendees and we can expect even more surprises from them.”
Not only does the show feature the finest in classic and antique vehicles, but it also gives out awards for first, second and third place in more than 50 categories.
All vehicles entered must be judge ready. At the end of each day, a parade of champions will take place with all of the winners of each category.
