Why so fast?

Lambertville
Can someone help me to understand the math here?
The average property tax bill in 2000 in Lambertville was $3,717. In 2012, it is $6,336.
However, if you calculated what $3,717 is worth in 2012 accounting for inflation, you would see that it is worth $4,949 today — not $6336!
Why are Lambertville taxes rising so much faster than the rate of inflation?
Possibly, a public official could write to The Beacon to provide an explanation?
