Grammy Winner, Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Sextet Will Perform at Makeda Ethiopian Restaurant, 338 George Street, New Brunswick, Saturday August 11, 9PM-1AM
Arturo O’Farrill, Grammy Winning pianist, composer extraordinaire, educator and winner of the Latin Jazz USA Outstanding Achievement Award for 2003, is the son of the legendary Chico O’Farrill. In 2002, Mr. O’Farrill created the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra for Jazz at Lincoln Center. In 2007 O’Farrill left Lincoln Center to form his own non-profit, the Afro Latin Jazz Alliance. Under the new institution, O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra released their second album, Song for Chico in 2008, which won a Grammy Award for "Best Latin Jazz Album" at the 2009 Grammy Awards. In 2011, O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra released their third album "40 Acres and a Burro," which was nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album." Arturo who was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City, has performed for The New Brunswick Jazz Project with friend and band member Todd Bashore. This will be his first time bringing his own band to new Brunswick Arturo’s latest CD release is a solo work entitled the Noguchi Sessions.
