Thomas Kozlowski, a June graduate of Hillsborough High School, was given a $4,000 award from the N.J. Utilities Association.
Thomas, the son of PSE&G employee Michael Kozlowski, was one of two recipients of the association’s James R. Leva Scholarship.
The Leva awards go to assist two NJUA member company employees or a member of their family in pursuing higher education goals.
The scholarships are named in honor of James R. Leva, a former Jersey Central Power & Light executive and NJUA president from 1990-1991.
Another one-time award of $4000 was given to Desiree Murray of Toms River.
The NJUA also gave two $1,500 awards to two minority, female or disabled students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college or university. The awards went to Tyler Vitiello of Saddle Brook and Megan Sibree, Hamilton Township, (Mercer County).
For the first time, NJUA introduced the trade and vocational school scholarships, which are awarded to two students who will pursue a trade or vocational degree. The scholarships, valued at up to a total of $6,000, were given to Alex Halpin of Holmdel and Macklin McQuade of Princeton Junction.
NJUA scholarship applications for 2013 will be made available on NJUA’s website in January.
