Police are searching for a trio of robbers who entered Hamilton Jewelers on Brunswick Pike, smashed several display cases and grabbed an undisclosed number of wristwatches shortly after noon on Aug. 1, according to police Lt. Mark Ubry.
Police were alerted to the robbery when store employees and passersby called 911, Lt. Ubry said. Initial calls indicated that gunshots were fired, but the noise was attributed to breaking glass. No weapons were displayed.
The thieves wore gloves and masks or bandanas to conceal their identities, Lt. Ubry said. After grabbing the wristwatches, they ran out of the store. Two or three cars followed them and left at a high rate of speed, he said.
One of the get-away cars was involved in an accident on Rout 1 at Bakers Basin Road, but no injuries were reported, Lt. Ubry said. Around 1 p.m., Lawrence police were notified by Pennsylvania police that a car that may have been involved in the robbery was also involved in an accident on I-95 in Bensalem Township, he said.
The men got out of that car and got into another car that stopped for them, and fled, according to witnesses, Lt. Ubry said. The car that was involved in that accident has been towed back to New Jersey. The New Jersey State Police are analyzing the car, he said.
