MANVILLE: Library Happenings column for week of Aug. 9

    The library will be closed from Friday, Aug. 24, to Sept. 4. When it reopens Sept. 5, it will be as a branch of the county library system.
    As the Manville library makes its transition into the county system, new library cards will not be issued until September.

    Summer hours: The library will be closed Saturdays through Sept. 1 and will resume Saturday hours on a date to be determined.

    Outdoor concert: The Kootz rock ‘n roll band will play in a free concert from 7-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14. Bring a lawn chair. In the event of rain, the concert will be held indoors.
    This program is made possible, in part, by funds from the N.J. State Council on the Arts in the Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment of Arts, and is administered by the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission through the state, county partnership local program.

    Summer reading: The library presents “Dream Big — Read!” as its summer reading program.
    This free program will be held Mondays from 10:30-11:15 a.m. through Aug. 13 for children going into kindergarten through eighth grade.

    August display case: On display for the month is a one-of-a-kind fast car collection by Joe Kavalesky. If you have a hobby or collection that you would like to exhibit, call Barbara Forbes at 908-722-9722.

    Hungry Readers Book Club: The club meets from noon to 1 p.m. on the second Monday of each month. The next meeting will be Aug. 13. For information, call Beverly Ball at 908-722-3057.

    Chess class: The free class, which is open to all ages, will meet in the Quiet Room on Thursday nights from 6:30 to 8. All are welcome.

    Gifts for the library: If you have new books, DVDs and CDs that you no longer need, consider donating them to the library. In addition, IRS tax-deductible monetary contributions are accepted. Due to budget cuts, donations are needed and appreciated. In advance, the library thanks everyone for their generosity.

    Books for sale: The library has ongoing book sale of a variety of children’s, juvenile non-fiction, biography, fiction, non-fiction, mystery, science fiction and more. Hardcover books sell for 50 cents, softcover 25 cents or by the bag for $2. VHS tapes are three for $1.

dles and join us. All are welcome, whether you are a novice or experienced.

    Cost of copies: Due to the cost of ink cartridges, the library Board of Trustees has raised the price of copies. Black-and-
white copies are 25 cents each. Color copies are 50 cents.
