MANVILLE: Seniors can learn about in-home services

   Jim Reed, president of Seniors Helping Seniors, will talk to seniors at the Manville Senior Center on Tuesday, Aug. 14, about “Hiring In-Home Services for Health and Personal Care to Maintain Independent Living.”
   The Senior Center offers programs, food and activities on most weekdays at the center on South Third Avenue.
   The Manville Recreation Department leads lightweight exercise on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15–10:45 a.m., and “walk and chair” exercise on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30–10:30 a.m.
   Bingo is played every Wednesday at 11:15 a.m. Birthdays are recognized on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
   The center’s hours are 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Its phone is 908-526-0175.
   Meals need to be ordered a day in advance, before 10:30 a.m. The suggested donation is $1.50 for those 60 and older.
   Manville is one of seven centers operated by Somerset County; it is accessible to individuals with disabilities. The center offers educational, recreational and entertaining activities for active adults age 60 and older, including wellness programs and health screenings.

   Aug. 23 – Trip to the Raritan Senior Center for “Singing All the Oldies” performance by Gary Morton.
   Aug. 24 — August birthday quiz.
   Aug. 27 — Easy Theraband exercises by Caitlin Witucki, Health Promotion Specialist, Somerset County Office on Aging & Disability Services. Theraband exercises strengthen muscles to improve ability to perform activities of daily living.
   Aug. 28 — “Medication Management” by eldercare educator Laurie Rowe of the Somerset County Office on Aging and Disability Services.
   Aug. 30 — Free blood pressure screenings by nurse Laura Cummings of the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills.
   Aug. 31 — “Kitchen Table Healing” by social worker Audrey Oxenhorn.
