LAMBERTVILLE — With the presentation of an official proclamation, the Friends of Ely Park formally recognized Stoneking Physical Therapy and Wellness Center, of Lambertville, for its generosity in organizing and presenting the first annual Shad Run 5K and 1 Mile Health Walk.
Proceeds from the event totaling $8,000 will benefit Lambertville’s Ely Park revitalization project.
Jim Mastrich, Ely Park president, awarded the proclamation to Richard Stoneking, Cindy Stoneking and their staff in recognition of the center’s contribution.
”This event was beneficial on so many levels,” said Mr. Mastrich. “Not only did it bring the community together for a fun fitness event that everyone could participate in, but it was a shining example of the local support that can be generated for a grassroots effort like the Friends of Ely Park.”
Mr. Stoneking said his long-standing friendship and appreciation for Jim Hamilton, founder of the Friends of Ely Park, sparked the idea of hosting the event.
”We’re thrilled about the success of the Shad Run and we look forward to next year’s 5K and Health Walk in support of Jim’s important community project,: he said.
The Friends of Ely Park proclamation honors Stoneking’s owners and employees, who raised awareness for the Friends of Ely Park project and for the center’s contributions to the fitness and well-being of the community, a shared goal with the Friends of Ely Park.
Mr. Stoneking said there were 350 participants in the event, and that the proceeds will provide $8,000 in funding for the beautification and revitalization of Ely Park.
Friends of Ely Park is a 501(c) (3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization. The mission is to “transform Ely Memorial Park in Lambertville into a new and inviting centerpiece of community life, a destination for recreation, and a symbol of the city’s distinctive character.”
The project also will increase the safety of the streetscape along Route 29, the main transportation corridor through the city.
