PRINCETON: Mayor gives project to Affordable Housing Board

Princeton Borough Mayor Yina Moore has asked the Borough Affordable Housing Board to help her improve the borough’s sustainability.
These efforts include preserving the affordability of existing owner-occupied housing, especially for homeowners who might need help with property taxes after the 2010 revaluation.
That property revaluation, the first in 14 years, brought substantial tax increases to many Princeton homeowners. The Affordable Housing Board is currently gathering information on the needs of homeowners who have limited assets or who are seniors on fixed incomes.
An existing private nonprofit organization could be revived to help residents adjust to their property tax payments. Assistance would come not from borough revenue but from contributions by individuals, corporations and other institutions.
Borough Attorney Henry Chou has approved the tentative plan.
The Affordable Housing Board is appointed by the mayor and includes Borough residents Anne Waldron Neumann, chair, David Schrayer, vice chair, and members Frances Craig, Laurie Harmon, April McElroy, the Reverend Bob Moore and Linda Sipprelle.
The Board has mailed about 400 letters to the borough homeowners whose property taxes rose more than 25 percent in 2010. But the board would like to hear from any homeowners who might need help with their borough taxes and did not receive a letter.
