Opposing ‘gun haters’ while favoring legal arms

To the editor:
I am writing to provide some basic information to educate the many gun and National Rifle Association haters who talk a lot and know little about guns and gun laws — in response to last week’s letter “Ban assault rifles, compensate owners.”
I’ll start with New Jersey gun law. We already have a New Jersey assault weapons ban. It is modeled after the failed United States assault weapons ban. We already have a 15-max magazine capacity in New Jersey. So pray tell what are you complaining about?
The NRA is not the gun lobby. I am the gun lobby. So put your heart into it and write to your congressman regarding your desire to ban guns. Also do a little reading and research. Read this “More Guns Less Crime” and www.gunowners.org/fs0404.htm.
Are you aware of the United States government sponsored Civilian Marksmanship Program, which sells battle rifles to citizens? It sponsors civilian shooting competitions that use battle rifles and variant assault rifles. Participants enjoy the skills of the sport. No animal is harmed. Nobody gets hurt. So I respectfully say — leave us alone; please mind your own business.
I will avoid the whole discussion of assault rifles, variant assault rifles, assault weapons and select fire rifles because it is just too much for a simple letter to the editor. Google it.
Yes, do some good for humanity. Go after the illegal guns. I dare you to visit Camden, Trenton and Newark. You might be amazed as to who some of the people are that steal guns and sell them to gangs. I won’t get into that either.
And finally a short story: in China citizens have no guns. So an upset and insane farmer invades a grade school. He hacks up the children with a machete. Google it. So let’s turn in all the machetes, and kitchen knives for that matter, and get compensation from the government.
